My first Ransome crawler was a Ransomes MG5 crawler. I don't know about anyone else but I think that the Ransome crawlers
and brilliant and the character of the could never be produced again! Right time for a history lesson:
- The Ransomes MG5 Crawler started prodution in 1948!
- It had a 600cc Ransomes air cooled petrol engine.
- It had a four to one reduction gear box with one forward and one reverse gear.
- The standard MG5 had a manual tool bar lift which I can tell you is back wrenching work to lift when lifting a tool
frame with tools in! However for an extra cost there was an alternative, this came in the simple form of a single ram hydraulic
lift.
- Many tools and equipment were made for the MG5, a list is supplied later in this site.
- The MG5 went out of production in 1953 with over 5000 Crawlers being made.
